VideoCube
CONCEPT: doc. ANTON ČIERNY, chair of the Department of Intermedia and Multimedia at Bratislava’s Academy of Fine Arts and Design
VideoCube is an artistic platform for the presentation of work categorized as video art (i.e. time-based media). Art-making today generally conforms to the context of a “white cube”, a term we in the visual arts use to denote the institution of the gallery. In film, however, viewers traditionally find themselves in the “black cube” of a cinema. This analogous relationship in terms of the viewer’s perspective broadens the possibilities of perceiving the film medium as well as offering alternative modes of presentation, many in direct opposition to conventional approaches. The VideoCube project at Art Film Fest 2012 presents students, graduates and young artists associated with the Intermedia and Multimedia Department at Bratislava’s Academy of Fine Arts and Design and the Department of Intermedial and Audiovisual Work at Banská Bystrica’s Academy of Arts who work with various forms of the video medium. The project’s aim is to provide an overview of the entire range of genres (from video performance, art videos and quasi-documentaries to music videos) of time-based media.
