Iceland According to Fridriksson (IF)

Fridrik Thór Fridriksson
In copperation with Icelandic Film Centre

Fridrik Thór Fridriksson is a director, screenwriter, producer, occasional actor and a prominent Icelandic cultural figure. Together with Björk and Sigur Rós, he is without a doubt one of the best-known Icelanders among Slovaks. Films of his featured in Slovak cinemas and TV film clubs include Cold Fever, Devil's Island, Angels of the Universe and Falcons. But those were all long ago. After a several-year hiatus, Fridriksson is currently releasing two new films, a most fitting occasion to present his work to date. And while we’re here, why not showcase his entire career in all its diversity?

The section “Iceland According to Fridriksson” does not promote Icelandic geysers, but rather the geyser of images, words, sound and music representing Iceland itself, and above all a person who it has influenced deeply, and who conversely has had a considerable influence on the country himself. Through the music and life of punks, cowboys, whalers and homeless people, children of the city and of the wilderness, compatriots and foreigners, Fridriksson with his trademark mastery shows in his films a part of himself, a part of the world in which he lives, and in which he, like his characters and like us, is looking for where he belongs.

The section presents Fridriksson’s work from its outset: films which haven't been screened in Slovakia, or which are no longer distributed here, to penetrate further into the essence of his work, and trace its development from his first short films to his current mature feature-length films, recipients of international acclaim.
