European Corner (EC)

The most frequented and popular section – for a variety of reasons. Some seem as if they still haven’t acquired the taste for the European narrative style and approach to cinematic depiction, and want to confirm their opinions – or be pleasantly surprised. Others are just the opposite: they have faith in old-world films and seek them out in programmes precisely due to their persisting absence from mainstream film distribution. And perhaps everyone together will happily watch the latest works of respected masters or take note of European cinema’s new talents.

There will certainly be opportunities enough for all audience members in this year's selection. Viewers will be courted by the likes of Michael Winterbottom, Hans Petter Moland, Goran Paskaljević, Francois Ozon and Detlev Buck on the one hand, and Daniel Monzón, Kinga Debska, Tarik Saleh and Lucy Walker on the other. Renowned filmmakers versus their lesser-known peers: Who will captivate audiences more?
